FTR1200 Flat Tracker
Indian’s concept Scout FTR1200 Custom road bike (pictured) created
a stir at EICMA last year, and now the American company has
confirmed a production FTR1200 will form part of its 2019 line-up.
Based on its flat track championship-winning FTR750 factory racer,
the FTR1200 will be powered by an all-new V-twin engine developed
specifically for the new model. Indian would not go into details but did
confirm the new bike will be unveiled later this year.

84.786MPH
It may not seem that fast to
modern-day young pups on their
21st-century crotch rockets, but
to 90-year-old off-shore yacht
racer Peter Mounsey it’s plenty
fast enough. Especially when
screaming across the salt f lats of
Lake Gairdner for the first time on
a 1948 350 Mac Velo. Pete was
one of 60 salt racing debutants
keen to tick land speed racing
off their bucket list at this year’s
Speed Week on the Aussie salt.

Who is Curtiss?
Confederate is now called Curtiss, but what
does that name mean? As well as obliterating
(unofficially) the motorcycle land speed record
on a self-built V8-powered bike in 1907,
which clocked 136mph (219km/h),
Glenn Hammond Curtiss also
invented features we now take
for granted. It’s all part of our
Curtiss Zeus E-Cruiser feature.

The Butty Van
A humble UK food van owner is becoming
a legend of the bike community for his love
of motorcycles and culinary skills with
the humble 'butty'. Col Malony’s regular
Facebook videos of the two-wheeled
wonders that visit his tiny kitchen on
wheels are gathering a cult following.

Happy Birthday, cobber
Bring up the name Kel Carruthers in the
company of anyone who knows about racing
and the unanimous agreement will be that
he is one of the most unsung Aussie heros of
international motorcycle racing. Carruthers
became an octogenarian this year, so it’s
high time we celebrated his achievements.
