Before I Fall’s Deutsch co-stars with Glen Powell as
Harper and Charlie, a pair of harassed assistants
driven to the wall by their respective workaholic
bosses (Lucy Liu and Taye Diggs). Desperation
results in innovation and the young pair decide to
matchmake their overlords, hoping that if they have
love in their lives, they will demand less of their
juniors. From organising the meet, to playing Cyrano
to their romantically clueless bosses, Harper and
Charlie spend a lot of time together. Can you see
where this will end? As Netflix originals go,SetItUpis
a cut above; a smooth, easy-to-watch rom-com that
plays skilfully to the formula. More like this please—
rack them up. (On Netflix from June 15)
You can’t outwit and outplay Russian
mobsters without getting your fingernails
filthy dirty, even if your legitimate business
happens to be a nail salon. The women who
work at Nail Artisans of Manatee County,
run by Desna (Niecy Nash), learn this week
by week. Season 2 starts with the arrival of
yet another cold-blooded, overly lacquered
bully, Zlata (the excellent Franka Potente)
(Now on Stan)
Ranganathan is a comedy star in his
native UK, but the laugh business is
a new career for the former maths
teacher—he says trying to get
reluctant kids to learn honed his
crowd-control skills. Having built
his way up in a relatively short time
back home, the father-of-three now
wants to crack the US market, taking
a camera crew along for the ride.
The 10-episode docu-series, in
which he suffers setback after
setback in his quest to become well-
enough known to fill the 6000-seat
Greek Theatre in Los Angeles, is as
dryly funny as Ranganathan’s
scripted stuff, and its cast of
sidekicks, including rogue uncle
Rags and newly-met burrito-maker
José, almost steal the show.

Provocateur’ and podcast ‘Hip-Hop
Saved My Life’ (Both now on iTunes)
