AMBER

SHERLOCK

M

ore than a year since a tense off-air
exchange involving Sherlock was
leaked, went viral and became
known as Jacketgate, the Nine News Now
presenter, 42, sits down for a tough ask with
WHO contributor Shannon Molloy.

What’s the biggest misconception
someone may have of you?
That I live a glamorous life. The reality is
that I work full-time and have two small
children. Most nights I am up to my elbows
in homework, bed-time stories, washing
and packing lunches.
How often do people bring up Jacketgate
and does it upset you?
Not much any more, and if they do, it’s
usually in good humour. I think Jacketgate
is part of the Australian vernacular now!
If you had $1 million to give to charity,
which one would you choose and why?
I would split it between Miracle Babies and
Humpty Dumpty Foundation. My daughter
was born six weeks premature
and both these organisations
are doing amazing work
providing vital support
and equipment for sick
kids and their families
around Australia.
Declutter or collect?
I’m definitely a collector.
I have a whole storage
space full of stuff.
I love stuff.
What was your
favourite toy as
a child?
Not quite a toy
but I had this
vinyl ABBA
bag I used
to take to
kindy. I
loved that
bag. I took it
everywhere.
So what’s in
your handbag
right now?
A phone, wallet,
makeup, hard-copy
diary, receipts,
musical-theatre
stubs, five biros,
a water bottle,
and children’s bits
and pieces. I have a
very big handbag!

Gosling plays Neil
Armstrong around
the time of the 1969
moon landing in
First Man, directed by
fellow Oscar winner
Damien Chazelle.

Ryan Gosling re-teams withLa La
Landdirector Damien Chazelle to
bring the legend of Neil Armstrong,
the first man to walk on the moon,
to the big screen inFirst Man.“We
wanted to tell the story about one of
the most epic accomplishments in
human history but root it very much
in the intimate day-to-day details of
what it was actually like to be Neil at
that moment in time,” says Chazelle,
who approached Gosling about this
role before asking him to star inLa
La Land. Playing the astronaut in
the historical drama (Oct. 11) came
easily to Gosling, 37. “What
fascinated me about Armstrong is
that for someone who accomplished
one of the most famous things that
anyone has ever accomplished, the
man himself is a little bit of an
enigma,” Chazelle, 33, adds. “Ryan is
able to capture that quiet heroism.”

I also love wearing ties, and
I can tie my own. I am working
on learning different knots.
I don’t have a lot of input on
my clothes, but I like that
Sheldon dresses up a little
more than most people
because I like to do that, too.
How are you doing at school?
I am learning a lot of new
vocabulary words.
