ast issue we looked at the land-
based options along the south-
western coast of the Eyre Peninsula
from Coffin Bay to Elliston. This
edition we’re going to pick up where
we left off, and detail the land-based
fishing from Elliston northwards to
Streaky Bay, some 190km of coastline.
While the coastline southwards of
Elliston is dominated by surf beaches,
these stretches of sand give way to
journey inside Waterloo Bay, right
on the doorstep of Elliston. This bay
offers calm water along an otherwise
unforgiving stretch of coast. The water
still surges within the bay when there’s
a fair swell running, but overall the bay
offers safe, sheltered fishing.
The heritage-listed jetty is the
most obvious land-based fishing
option within the bay, and at 424m
long it’s a substantial structure. The
a mix of rocky headlands, sheltered
bays and beaches when you push
northwards. There are plenty of good
land-based fishing options along this leg
of the Eyre Peninsula, with productive
rock, beach and jetty fishing on offer.
