from a 16th century Italian nobleman Marquis Muzio Frangipani who
waslivinginParis.He’screditedwithinventinganalmond-scented
perfumeforleathergloves(leatherwasn’ttoofragrantinthosedays),
whichbecamealltheragewiththeFrenchnobilityandLouisXIII.The
pastrychefsofPariscashedinonthefadandcreatedanalmondpaste
used to fill pastries and tarts. The frangipani tree is also supposedly
named after the Marquis because of the beautiful scent of its flowers.
