Rally or Grid. It’s an awesome combo, but it’s
not the only thing we love about this game.
As we hinted at earlier, OnRush isn’t about
traditional racing. In fact, it’s not even about
circuits, with most of the “tracks” being long
cross-country journeys that send you dodging
trees, driving through rivers and leaping off
hills. You’re not driving for yourself, either, and
are instead racing as part of a team. Your goal
therefore is not to come first, but to earn points
by driving like a crazy madman.
Even the game modes remind us less of a
racer and more of a first-person shooter. The
Overdrive mode is all about being the quickest
team to reach a certain amount of points.
Countdown mode has two teams racing
through the world trying to reach gates that add
time to their countdown clock, seeing who can
different strengths and weaknesses, and a
good team will mix and match the vehicles
so they can use different strategies to try and
earn points. You don’t have to worry about
being too slow either, because if you crash you
can change to a different vehicle and then re-
join the race right in the middle of the action.
What a great idea!
The end result is one of the most enjoyable
racing games we’ve played in years. The action
is fast and frantic in both multiplayer and
while playing offline – especially given there
are 24 cars involved in a race. The environment
looks great and is filled with obstacles and
activity. And the game modes offer a different
kind of racing experience that is endlessly fun.
