Not so

#itspo

Images tagged #fitspo (short
for “fit inspiration”) of taut,
toned females are meant as
exercise inspiration – yet a
recent Flinders University study
found that women exposed to
these images had less intention
to exercise compared to those
who viewed messages
encouraging fitness.
Furthermore, exposure to
#fitspo images led to a decline
in body satisfaction and an
increase in negative mood.

HAVE
your
SAY

Are you sick
of weight-loss
programs that
demand stringent
monitoring of every
morsel that passes
your lips? Then the
newly updated Weight
Watchers plan, WW
Your Way, might just
be the answer. The
plan includes 200
Zero Points foods,
all of which can be
enjoyed without
worrying about
measuring or
tracking. So what’s on
the list? Think eggs,
corn, chicken breast,
beans and fat-free
plain yoghurt.

EAT IT OR DITCH IT? IT’S
A QUESTION WE’VE ALL
CONTEMPLATED ABOUT FOOD
THAT’S BEEN SITTING IN THE
FRIDGE A FEW TOO MANY DAYS.
HOWEVER, A NEW INVENTION
FROM ENGINEERS AT CANADA’S
McMASTER UNIVERSITY MAY
SOON PROVIDE A DEFINITIVE
ANSWER. THEY’VE DEVELOPED
A TRANSPARENT PATCH THAT
AFFIXES TO FOOD WRAPPING
AND DETECTS CONTAMINATION
BY ANY NASTY BACTERIA.

Despite commonfolk
lore, toads have
nothing to do with causing warts. The actual reason a
wart forms is due to the highly contagious human
papillomavirus, which enters the body via broken skin.
While warts often go away in their own time, you can
take matters into your own hands by using a topical
treatment. Always read the instructions first.

Bedtime

Is thinking about your to-do list
keeping you awake at night?
Then write it down. A recent
US study that analysed brain
activity during sleep found
that people were better rested
if they wrote a checklist for
the next day before turning in.
