Bethany Sivewright took the plunge
and it really paid off.

Micheal and Bethany are amongst the
thousands of Australians who have
overcome the barrier of a disability to
find work by working with APM.
The company delivers the Australian
Government’s Disability Employment
Services across the country and are
currently expanding their network to
help even more people find employment
opportunities as the program changes
this year.
From July, anyone who is eligible for
Disability Employment Services will be
able to choose their preferred provider.
When job seekers choose APM they
receive a dedicated employment
consultant who helps deliver a tailored
program to meet their needs.
APM’s employment consultants are part
of a 1700-strong team operating from
more than 400 locations.
Together they enable more than 130,000
people to improve their lives every year.

More than two months later and
Micheal is now carrying out various
duties including mowing, pruning, tractor
maintenance and learning about different
equipment parts and power tools.

Bethany Sivewright is one person who
can relate to facing challenges when
determined to succeed in a job.
Bethany came to APM with several
barriers to finding work, including a
spinal disorder and chronic back pain,
Asperger’s syndrome, anxiety and a
hectic schedule to support her
various conditions.
Working with her APM consultant Shane,
Bethany’s personal plan started by
making sure she was able to attend her
doctor’s appointments, support services
and achieve small health goals to
increase her confidence and boost her
wellbeing. When she was ready, Shane
approached local employers to give
Bethany a trial in the workplace.
It didn’t take long for Bethany to
impress staff and become popular
with customers at Take The Plunge Café
in Bundaberg where she was soon
offered a part-time paid job.
