Palacio Villapanés
A renovated 18th-century palace, this 50 -room hotel
achieves a marriage of contrasts: minimalist design
choices are displayed across a baroque canvas, resulting in
a playful boutique bolthole that’s both inviting and utterly
sumptuous. Its carriage-height front doors first opened
in 200 9; today, they usher guests into a calming patio
of potted palms and painted tiles. The rooftop has been
converted into a sun terrace, complete with plunge pool.
Spacious rooms and suites have soaring ceilings and wood-
panelling, and modern comforts including rain showers.

Hotel Alfonso XIII
This prestigious hotel has been impressing dignitaries,
celebrities and travellers alike with its show-stopping
Andalucian design and old-world grandeur since 1929,
when it was unveiled as part of the Ibero-American
Exposition. Showcasing brightly coloured azulejo tiles
from local kilns, the 14 8-room landmark reopened in 2012
following a 10-month refresh. Plush rooms and regal suites
meet every need, but the hotel’s great strength is its perfect
communal areas, from the flowery courtyard to the elegant
outdoor swimming pool and moody cocktail venue, Bar
Americano. From €3 60 (£300), B&B. marriott.co.uk

Hotel Casa 1800
Encircled by tapas bars and flamenco venues, this light-
flooded, three-storey mansion, dating from 18 64, offers 33
rooms (some with private, outdoor hot tubs) in the heart
of the Santa Cruz neighbourhood. The property opened in
2010 after renovations and its ambience is characterised by
boudoir-esque glamour, all gilt furniture, ritzy chandeliers
and champagne-hued walls, as well as more understated
touches such as exposed brick and period prints. There’s
nowhere better to enjoy a nightcap — the rooftop has
unmatched views of the cathedral, dramatically lit up in
the evening. From €1 67 (£140). hotelcasa1800sevilla.com

Corral del Rey
This 4 00-year-old palace complex has been reinvented for
the 2 1st century as a sophisticated urban retreat, replete
with a creamy colour palette, Moroccan antiques and
Indian woven rugs across 17 rooms. A menu of organised
activities, from tapas tours to horse-drawn carriage rides,
sets the hotel’s hospitality offering apart, while it’s worth
splashing out for the two Pool Suites, where you’ll ascend
a staircase to a private terrace with a pool, sunbeds,
blooming bougainvillea and sensational city vistas. From
€374 (£311), B&B. corraldelrey.com AMELIA DUGGAN
