ontheboardandcontinuingtobeanactive
memberthroughoutherlifetime.
Láraalwaysmadetimeforeveryoneand
providedsupportandloveforherfamily
andfriends.Sheenjoyedherdistributed,but
close-knitgroupoffamilyandfriends,host-
inggettogetherswheneverpossible.She
willberememberedforherinternational
cookingandbakingskills,greenthumb,sig-
naturequirkysenseofhumor,boldfashion
sense,andthededicationoftakingcandid
photosoffamilyandfriends.Sheenjoyed
travelingandespeciallyexploringnewplac-
es,people,andexperiences.

sheraisedherVikingSwordtoherenemy
cancer,neverlettingcancertakeawayher
upbeatspiritorherwilltofight.Through
her,weknowwhatcourage,resilienceand

policy.Mostrecently,IanwasSeniorAdvi-
sortothePublicInterestFellowship,having
previouslyservedasExecutiveDirector,and
wasalsoaFellowattheEthicsandPublic
PolicyCenter.Hisworkfocusedonliberal

andclassicaleducation,civilsocietyand
civiceducation,andthetraditionaland
communalgroundsoflibertyin modernand
contemporarysocietyandculture.
Ianfoundpeaceandjoyin hisfaithandfam-
ilyandpracticedhisfaithdailythroughacts
ofkindnessandprayer.Helovedsinging
songsandrecitingpoetrywithhischildren,
whowillcarrythistraditionforward.The
childreninheritedmanygiftsfromtheirfa-
ther,amongthemBen,whocarriesforthhis
father’scourage;Sophiehisloveofbeauty;
Abbyhissoul;Eviehisgreeneyes;Theahis
athleticism;Cheechhisgiftoflanguage;and
Corahis heart.
Inthelastweekofhislife,hecontinued
towatchsoccer,discussHamletwithhis
brother,arguepoliticswithhisfather,and
talkaboutphilosophywithhismother.His
greatestjoyin hislastdayswasbeinghome
withhischildren-listeningtotheirlaughter,
praying,andsingingwiththemwithhisbe-
lovedKellybyhisside.
