Businessin 1950.Boblikedto jokethathe
wasadmittedto UVA, becausehis middle
namewasDinwiddie,the sameas Virgin-
ia’scolonialgovernor.Upongraduating,he
servedasanArmyFirstLieutenantinup-
stateNewYork andlaterin Kansas.Upon
discharge,Bob beganhis professionalca-
reerin federal governmentsaleswithIBM
in Washingtonbeforebeingtransferredto
Philadelphia.
Havingsavedagood deal,Bobleft IBM and
traveledthroughEuropefor mostof ayear.
Uponhis return,he beganacareerin real
estatesaleswithLeigh&Schwaband soon
thereaftermarriedMargaret“Maggy”Dwyer
in 1962.Theyenjoyedalong and happylife
togetherwiththeirthreechildrenat their
home,WalnutGrove,inBethesda. Maggy
co-owned the much-loved Margy-Betts

clothingstorein Alexandria.
In 1985,BobjoinedW.C. and A.N.Miller De-
velopmentCompanyasManagerofMiller’s
SpringValley office.Bob wasbelovedby col-
leaguesand clients.Hewas the kindof help-
ful personwhoseclientsveryoftenbecame
fastfriends.Hewasalwaysthoughtfuland
readyto devotehis vastexperienceand in-
sightsas amentorto manyagentsand was
immenselyvaluablein helpingsort out even
the mostdifficulttransactionsthatthe firm
encountered.BobremainedwithMillerfor
31 yearsuntilhis retirementin 2016at age
88.BobwasactiveintheD.C.Association
of Realtorsand wasrecognizedon multiple
occasionsfor his outstandingperformance.
Bobwasthe consummategentlemanwho
lovedspendingtimewithfamilyand friends.
His childrenalwaysremarkedthathe en-
tertainedorwentoutmorethantheydid
combinedin anygivenyear.Helovedto
travel,spendtimeon the beachandwalk
on the CrescentTrail andC&OCanal.He
wasalongtimeEucharisticMinisteratboth
Our Ladyof MercyChurchand ManorCare
in Potomac,MD. He andMaggywerein-
strumentalin establishingMercyChurch’s
volunteeranddonationprogram on behalf
of So OthersMightEat (SOME)in the early
1970s.
Bobis predeceasedby his wifeMaggyand
his sonRobertD. Grigg IV (Allison).He is
survivedby his daughters,JennieGriggand
StaceySaidy(Tom),his brother,William,all
of Bethesda,andby granddaughters,Mar-
gauxand Jane Saidyof Bethesdaand Mag-
gy and AshleyGriggof NewYork. He is also
survivedby PamFalge,his devotedpartner
of manyyears.

on the financecommittee.Helivedthe last
15 yearsin Bethesda,Maryland near many
familyand friends.
Thomaswasprecededby his lateloving
wifeHeide.Thomasis survivedby his son,
Thomas(Kelly),andhis daughter,Jennifer
(Allan);andfour belovedgrandchildren,
Patrick,Hope,William,andJohn.He was
precededby his late sisterMichele.Hewill

he graduatedfromGeorgetownPrepin
1953.He graduatedfromthe Universityof
Virginia,wherehe wasmemberof Sigma
Chi,in 1957;the Universityof VirginiaLaw
School,wherehe wasamemberof the Vir-
giniaLawReview,in1960;and HarvardBusi-
nessSchoolin 1963.
Danbeganhis legalcareerwiththe Depart-
mentof Commercewherehe receivedthe
SilverMedalAward in 1966for his workin
creatingthe Departmentof Transportation.
Whenhe becamepresidentof The Food and
DrugLawInstitute,hefoundhis real talent
helpingcompaniesnavigatethecomplex
worldof foodanddruglaw.His testimony

as an expertbeforeCongressin 1982on
tamperresistantdrugpackagingcontrib-
utedto the passingof “theTylenolbill.”He
continuedhis foodand druglaw careeras
partnerin the law firmof Wald, Harkrader&
Rossand at the ConsumerHealthProducts
Association.He retiredfromthe Consumer
HealthProductsAssociationas SeniorVice
Presidentand General Councilin 1998.One
of Dan’sgreatpleasureswasmentoring
andofferingadviceto youngerbusiness
associatesas theyprogressedin theirown
careers.
Dan’suniqueabilityto bringpeoplewith
diverseandstrongviewsto consensusfor
commongoalsmadehis volunteerworkin-
valuable.Heservedon the Boardof Advisors
at the NationalBankof Washingtonand the
Boardof the Stabler-LeadbeaterApothecary
Shop,and wasatreasurerof The LittleThe-
atreof Alexandriafor several years.Hewas
amemberof the DC and VirginiaBar Asso-
ciationsandthe Bar of the U.S. Supreme
Court.
He is survivedby his wifeof 65 years,San-
draSmithO’Keefe;childrenVickiE. O’Keefe
(GordonIvins),TimothyJ. O’Keefe(Marian-
na);fivegrandchildrenMeghanO’Keefe,
TimothyColinO’Keefe(Amy),ErinO’Keefe,
Kelly Ivins-O’Keefe and Delaney Ivins-
O’Keefe(JohnDudley);and his sister,Patri-
cia Neibel.
His childrenare thankfulfor his sageadvice
and guidancethroughoutthe years.His fam-
ily will cherishmanyfondmemoriesof him

Alovinganddevotedwifeandmother,
daughterand sister,Dianecareddeeplyfor
her family.She had apassionfor education
and learningthatplayedalargerolein her
life professionallyand personally.
DianeKeith LightwasbornMay31, 1940,in
Richmond,VA,toJohnKeithLightandIsla
Vann (Poole)Light.Her youngerbrotherJohn
Keith LightJr.was bornfouryearslater.
Diane graduated from Hermitage High
Schoolin Richmondin 1958as oneof the
top studentsin her class.Amongher many
activitiesinhighschool,shewasSenior
ClassSecretary,associateeditorof the
schoolnewspaper,vice presidentof the
NationalHonorSociety,and secretaryof the
LatinClub.She wasalsoon the yearbook
staffandin QuillandScroll,anationalor-
ganizationhonoringstudentswhoshowed
outstandingabilityon newspaperand year-
bookstaffs,aswell as beinginvolvedin Fu-
tureTeachersof Americaand workingas a
library assistant.
Diane then went to her hometown
WesthamptonCollege(Universityof Rich-
mond)whereshe graduatedwithabache-
lor of artsdegreewithhonorsin history.In
her senioryear,Dianewaseditor-in-chiefof
“TheRichmondCollegian,”the weeklycam-
pus newspaper.Earliershe hadworkedas
areporterand thenmanagingeditoron the
publication.She wasalsoamemberof Phi
BetaKappa,MortarBoard,whereshe served
as treasurer,Phi AlphaTheta,the national
honorary historyfraternity,PiDelta Epsilon,
the nationalhonorary collegiatejournalism
fraternity,KappaDeltaPi, an honorsociety
for education,Who’sWho AmongStudents
in AmericanUniversitiesandColleges,and
the Dean’sList. Shewas alsoco-editorof
the WesthamptonCollegeHandbook.
After college,Diane attended graduate
schoolat theUniversityof Wisconsinat
Madison.There,she earnedamasterof arts
degreein history,includingwritingathesis
paperentitled“Activitiesof the EnglishJaco-
bites,1689-1696.”
Dianemet JohnI. Riffer,the loveof her life,in
the summerof 1963in Washington,DC.They
quicklybecameengagedand weremarried
November28, 1964,in Richmond,VA.They
beganmarriedlife togetherin Springfield,
VA.Atthis time,Dianewasahistoryteacher
at Lee HighSchoolin Springfield.She taught

therefor five years.
Whenthe couple’sfirst child,Christopher
John,wasbornin 1969,she steppedaway
fromteachingto devotetimeto raisinga
family.The familyboughtahomein Falls
Churchwheretheywouldlivefor nearly
30 years.In1974,daughterElizabethDiane
wasborn.
JohnandDianehadmetthroughFoundry
MethodistChurchin Washington,DC,which
they attendedthroughoutthe late1960s
and early1970s.ThroughFoundry,they also
mademanylifelongfriendswithwhomthey
shareddinnersand familyget-togethers.
EventuallyDianeand Johnbeganattending
WesleyUnitedMethodistChurchin Vienna,
VA,wheretheywerebothactivein volun-
teeringand in service.
Afterhavingsteppedbackfromher career
as an educator,bythe late 1970sDianede-
cidedto go backto graduateschooland fur-
therher educationand professionaltraining
by takinggraduate-levelclassesin library
scienceat GeorgeMasonUniversity.
She thenfirstworkedat ChesterbrookEle-
mentaryin McLeanbeforetakingoverthe
library departmentat TimberLaneElemen-
taryin Falls Church,whereshe wasacor-
nerstoneof the facultyfor two decades.
Dianeand John’smarriagewasone of deep
loveandrespectfor eachother,and they
providedawonderfulmodelfor theirchil-
drenin howto balanceworkand familyand
trulysupportyourspouse.
An aspectof DianeandJohn’sserviceat
Wesleythatdevelopedin the 1990sand
2000swasan outreachprogram between
the churchand KetchamElementarySchool
in Washington,DC.
Dianeand Johnplannedtheirretirementsto
coincide,tomaximizetheirtimetogether,
and theymadethe mostof it and enjoyed
extensivetraveling.
WhenJohnwasstrickenwithabrain tumor,
Dianewasdevotedin her carefor him.
Afterhe passedaway,she begananew
chapterin her life,movingto Gainesville,Va.,
andstayingverybusywithfrequenttripsto
concertsand museumsin Washington,D.C.,
bookclubs,and reunionswithlongtime
friends.She alsoconfoundedthe GivingCir-
cle at HeritageHunt,whichraisedtensof
thousandsof dollarsfor localcharities.
Shecontinuedto travelas well,both
throughoutthe U.S.,and to Europeand Aus-
tralia.
Familytogethernesswasavital partof Di-
ane’slateryears,and she startedatradition
of familyweeksat the beachin Duck,North
Carolina,on the OuterBanks.
Eventually,Dianelivedin Charlottesvilleto
be closerto Lisa and her family,and she had
frequentvisitsfromher familyand longtime
friends.
Dianewasprecededin deathby her hus-
bandJohnI. Rifferin 2006,andaninfantson
TerenceKeith in 1973.
Dianeis survivedby her son Chris(Samina
Aziz)and grandchildrenZaraand Mira; and
daughterLisaWickersty(ToddWickersty)
andgrandchildrenJosh,Isla andKate;and
brotherJohnLight(MollyDeBusschere).

DavidBohanWard passedawaypeacefully
withhis lovingwifeby his sideon April13,
2022 –his 88thbirthday.Heissurvivedby
his wifeof 59 years,CelesteCaufieldWard,
his twodaughters,ElizabethWhittle(Jim)
and LuluGonella(Geoff)and fourgrandsons,
DanielWhittle,Geoff Gonella,Jr., Christopher
Whittleand AndrewGonella.
Davidwas bornon April13, 1934,in Worces-
ter,MAtoparentsAnthonyand HelenGrady
Ward. He graduatedin 1958fromHolyCross
Collegeand in 1961fromGeorgetownLaw
School.He proudlyandhonorablyserved
two yearsin the Army.After his workduring
law schoolas aCapitolPoliceOfficer,David
beganhis professionalcareeras an ener-
gy lawyerwiththeFederal PowerCom-
mission.He thenenteredprivatepractice.
Davidwasheavilyinvolvedin the energy
industry’stransitionto independentgas and
hydroelectricgenerationandnatural gas
andelectriccompetition.He wasan avid
supporterandvolunteerwiththe Energy
Bar AssociationandFoundationof the En-
ergyLaw Journalwherehe servedin various
roles.In1989-1990,he servedasthe presi-

dentof the Federal EnergyBar Association.
His daughter,Elizabeth,followedhim as an
energylawyer,workingwithhim at Flood&
Ward beforemovingto NixonPeabody.She
learnedso muchfromhimand carriedthe
lessonsto her practiceand legalcareer.She
lovedparticipatingin proceedingswithand
oppositehim overthe years.
Davidhadmanypassionsthroughouthis
life.Inhis youth inMassachusetts,heplayed
baseballandice hockey.Hewas an avid
sailortakingnumerousmulti-dayexcursions
withfriends,not onlylocally,but sailingfrom
NovaScotiato Annapolisand fromVirginia
to Bermuda.He nurturedalove for biking,
ice skating,duckpinbowlingand skiingin his
daughtersas theyweregrowingup.Inhis
fortieshe rediscoveredgolf whichbecamea
highpriorityin retirement.He nevermissed
his daughters’events,includinggymnastics
anddivingmeets,concerts,and marching
bandcompetitions.Helovedbringingout
his old baseballgloveto helpat his grand-
sons’baseballpracticesand attendedmany
of theirsportingand musicevents.Hewas
alsoalifelongfan of the BostonRed Sox.
David’strue happyplacewasCeleste’sfam-
ily campat GreenLakein Dedham,Maine.
Herehe wouldtinkerwiththe house,go
out on his boat,paddlein his kayak,explore
the littletraveledcrevicesof the lakeand
its woodsand,mostimportantly,enjoythe
companyof his wifeand family.Wecontin-
ue to searchfor the locationof his “secret”
blackberrypatch.
Davidwasamemberof KenwoodGolfand
CountryClubsince 1977 wherehe spent
countlessdaysgolfingand goingto the gym.
He wasalsoadarn goodduckpin bowler.
