The A-7Ps also took part in airshows
throughout Europe, initially as static
participants but later ying demonstration
ights. As well as exchange visits to the UK

  • notably to Leuchars, Coltishall, Leeming
and Lossiemouth – the A-7Ps also attended
airshows at Alconbury in 1991, Coningsby in
    1989 and 1991 and Fairford in 1991 and 1998.
Owing to its rarity in European
    skies, the Portuguese Corsair was

always an attraction for enthusiasts and
photographers at these events; and the
introduction of a ight demonstration at
some venues was welcome.

REPLACEMENT
The Corsair served with the FAP for almost
18 years – from December 1981 to July
1999 – during which time the eet lost 14
aircraft in accidents.
In 1994, 20 F-16A/B Block 15OCU
(Operational Capability Upgrade) jets
arrived and equipped a newly activated
Esquadra 201, which took the name of
‘Falcões’, causing Esquadra 302 to be
renamed ‘Águias Reais’ (Real Eagles).
Esquadra 302 was deactivated in May
1996 and its A-7Ps moved over to Esquadra
304, which then became the sole operator
until the type’s retirement in July 1999. The
last ight of a FAP Corsair took place on
July 10, 1999.
