Loyal through and through
I have read your magazine since the age
of 12 (I’m now 37), and last October, having
read about shared ownership in MBY,
a friend and I purchased a share in a
Princess 62 flybridge moored in Puerto
Portals, Majorca. We duly studied for
our day skipper theory in the UK, before
completing our practical on our boat
in Majorca. Having undertaken refresher
lessons in January, April was our first
week on the boat without a skipper,
and our trip to Andratx was our
first big trip that we completed ourselves,
which we toasted with a barbecue
on the flybridge watching
the sunset. In the meantime,
thank you for publishing
such a great magazine.

I’m thrilled to hear that
we have inspired you to
take your first big leap
into boating and I think the
decision to go with a shared
ownership in Majorca is bang
on. You can always upgrade
to your own boat later. Hugo

A sea change
While I previously provided feedback
highlighting my concerns about the way
MBY was heading, I feel I need to update
my feelings. Over the last couple of issues,

it certainly feels as if you have listened to
and acted upon feedback. I loved the June
issue; the Truth About the Colregs court
case was really informative and I especially
enjoyed Born Again Boat Owner, L-Plate
Liveaboards, Poles Apart, Brittany en
Bateau, The Yard that time Forgot and
Taking a Bearing. I really feel I’ve had value
for money. Many thanks to you and the

And thank you for taking the time to give us
this positive feedback. It means a lot. Hugo

Food for thought
I wonder if readers could help on a question
of etiquette. My wife and I have just had
three wonderful days on our Nimbus 30S
out of our home port of Port de Pollença
on the north coast of Majorca. On the first
night at anchor, we were blessed with calm
weather and a bright orange moonrise
which lit up the whole of our vee-berth. On
the second night in Colonia de San Pedro,
we ate a lovely meal whilst watching
a glorious sunset over the Formentor
headland. On our way back, we were
enjoying total seclusion on the eastern
side of Formentor bay when another boat
put down its anchor. My question is, given
our relative intimacy in the bay, should
we have invited them on board or indeed,
should they have invited us? My wife was
concerned that leftover chicken wouldn’t
create quite the right impression so we
