The NSW Greens have
demanded that deer in that state
have their game status removed
and that they be re-branded a
feral pest. Should they?

WEB
NEWS FROM MARTIN AULDIST – WEBSITE EDITOR

There’s been heaps happening on the Sporting Shooter website this month.

Amongst other things we say goodbye to Vic McCristal, one of the most influential

fishing and hunting writers our country has seen. We also have our say on the

latest suggestion from the NSW Greens that deer should be declared a feral pest.

Vic McCristal was best known as a fishing scribe, but he was also
a very influential hunting and outdoors writer. He passed away
recently, aged 86 – read his nephew Gavin Atkins’ tribute here.

OUT OF AFRICA: RON TUFNELL’S
KNIVES FOR HUNTERS

VALE VIC MCCRISTAL

“Beautiful knives without a doubt
but i hope he uses that band saw
with the guide in place!” Safeshot
on Ron Tufnell’s knives for hunters.

“Well written article Martin, there
can’t be any doubt that deer are a
game animal and therefore an
economic resource, far above the
status of a feral animal such as the
destructive fox, cat and even pig.
The Greens attack is simply a
purile political attack designed to
stop the growing hunting and
shooting culture in NSW.” Robert
Borsak on The deer debate: game
animal or feral pest.
“With the possibility of declaring
the deer as a pest Victoria faces
the possibility of seeing 1080 air
drops as per New Zealand.

Google the Graf Boys and see what
they have been fighting for years.”
Safeshot on The deer debate:
game animal or feral pest.

“I remember reading Vic Mc
Crystal’s columns in the Australian
Outdoors magazine and i feel
privileged to have ‘ known’ him
thereby. My condolences to his
friends and family.” Alf on Vale Vic
McCristal.

“I spent formative years reading
Vic Mc Cristal. A lot of his opinions
on bush craft and sportsmanship
became my own. An entertaining
and informative author. I would
have liked to have burnt some
powder with him. Thanks for the
memories.” Kevin on Vale Vic
McCristal
