“We’re looking for direction for
each port committee as to what
they would like us to do and how
they would like us to do it,” Jensen
said. “But I think, in general ... the
ship would arrive to an audience
on shore, she would fire her guns
and then sail into the pier and tie
up and then to lower her gangways
and open her decks to the public.
She will be impressive.”
Visitors also can take part in pier-
side activities including historic ship-
building crafts demonstrations, inter-
active conversations with the volun-

by seasoned re-enactors, concerts of
period and contemporary music, and
food and craft exhibitions.

The Navy Museum exhibition,
called “Twin Destinies,” is scheduled
to open when Hermione arrives in the
Washington area. It will focus on
naval power and the evolving strate-

war, of France and the United States
from 1776 to 2014. The centerpiece
will be the voyage of Hermione as
seen from Lafayette’s perspective.
“It’s going to be an unusual and
exciting exhibition,” Kilachand said.
A photography exhibit chronicling
Hermione’s reconstruction, a play
about Lafayette, seminars and a teen-
