AUSTRALIAN ARAFURA
CADET CHAMPIONSHIP
It was an even competition in the Australian
Arafura Cadets Championship held at
Christies Sailing Club, with the top four
boats scoring at least one win in the six
completed heats. Paquita Quilliam proved
to be a little more consistent than her
competitors and won by a single point.
AUSTRALIAN OPTIMIST CHAMPIONSHIPS
Fremantle local and 2014 Opti
worlds sailor Romë Featherstone
sailed brilliantly to lead from
day one and sweep the fleet at
the 2015 Australian Optimist
Championships held at
Fremantle Sailing Club. Sailed
in typical strong WA winds and
large seas the 2015 Australian &
Open Optimist Championships
bought together 220 sailors and
their families.
SYDNEY YACHTS REGATTA
At the end of a seven race series, well short of
the 12 originally scheduled due to an extreme
weather pattern, the long delivery from Geelong
to Pittwater became all the more worthwhile
when Brenton and Jen Carnell’s Phoenix capped
off the Sydney 38 Australian title by one point
having staved off a late challenge from Mark
Gri ffit h ’s Old School (R PAYC).
Winning Sydney 36 in their two day series
was Peter Franki’s Saltshaker (CYCA) then Steve
Hatch’s M (RSYC) and Andrew Hurt’s Onya
(MHYC) third overall. For the first time a single
dedicated series brought together two classes of
Sydney Yachts.
