Maritime Systems Joins Forces
with the E-Touch Group

After collaborating with
ETouch Systems on a variety
of super yacht projects,
Graham Bradley has agreed
to merge Maritime Systems
with ETouch Systems Baleares
SLU to form a new company
called ETouch NavCom SL.
The new company might
be best described as a
‘bolt on’ accessory to the
ETouch Group. ETouch
NavCom will provide the
group with expertise in
the fields of radio, radar,
bridge communications and
electronic navigation systems
and services. The point of
contact for ETouch NavCom
will remain with Graham
Bradley whose telephone
number is unchanged.
Although Graham has a
new email address, graham.
bradley@etouchsystems.

eu the Maritime Systems
address, sentinel@marisyst.
com will remain active for
some considerable time. As
those who know or have
worked with Graham will
know, whispering the words,
‘radar or MF/HF’ fault’
over the telephone will still
immediately get his undivided
attention. The Radio room in
Santa Catalina will remain as
the ETouchNavcom workshop,
but ETouch Systems and
ETouchNavcom together with
its alliance partners, have
recently opened an office
located within the Global
building in STP.

ETouch Systems are best
known for their superlative
super yacht power control
and monitoring systems.
The group has recently been
award a major contract with
the Palma Johnson super
yacht builder in the USA.
This new contract requires
the group to design, specify
and oversee all electrical
and electronic aspects of
Palmer Johnson’s new
build yachts.

Duty of Care –
What does this really mean?

It is without doubt that
Yachting as an industry has
changed dramatically and
continues to do so. There has
been increasing noise recently
about duty of care, as applied
to all on onboard.

The legal concept of Duty
of Care presumes that a
legal obligation exists to act
towards others to avoid risk
of foreseeable injury. The
actual Duty may be defined
by statute (legislation)
and common law, as well
as cultural and social
expectations of acceptable
standards of care. In this
sense there is a moral and
legal responsibility for the
health, safety and security
of all under your care. This
extends off the Yacht e.g. crew
in transit to and from their
place of residence.

Amongst other things, duty
of care extends to physical
and mental health, workplace
accidents, consequences of
workplace stress, repetitive
strain, communicable
diseases, safety and security,
bullying, harassment and
discrimination and travel for
work purposes.

A company implementing best
practices can produce positive
benefits such as:

  • the social responsibility and
    favorable reputational view,

  • a culture of professional
    responsibility improving

all operations,

  • cost benefits of taking
    a broader best practice
    approach.

Although somewhat new in
Yachting – the world of the
international business traveler
has been doing this for a long
time. A checklist of the things
to consider are:

  • Risk Assessment – e.g. What
    are the relative risks?

  • Strategy Planning – e.g. Are
    you meeting your obligations?

  • Travel Planning – e.g. What
    are the location’s medical and
    travel safety risks?

  • Communication – e.g. Have
    I educated crew on threats,
    risks and mitigation?

  • Tracking – e.g. Do I know
    where my people are if
    something goes wrong?

  • Assistance e.g. How can I get
    help if I fall ill?

There are tools available to
make implementation less
restrictive. A few resources
