Brazil, taking in the Southern Ocean and Cape Horn, after a 3
day start delay due to the effects of the devastating Cyclone”
Pam”. Our thoughts go out to the thousands made homeless in
Vuanatu and of course to those who lost family and friends.

The end of this month will see the start of The Palma
Superyacht and Boat Shows, as well as the Palma Vela Regatta,
which runs concurrently. This year’s show promises to be bigger
and better than ever, with some very special boats on show.
You will have to come along to see which ones!!

The Palma Superyacht Show is now the largest show of sailing
superyachts anywhere on the planet, and for me makes the
show all the more spectacular and interesting. Monaco Yacht
Show maybe still has the kudos of having the biggest yachts,
but with 95% of them being motoryachts, it somehow lacks the
visible attraction which sailing yachts bring.

Talking of Show’s, April 8th – 10th sees the inaugural London
Superyacht, Jet and Prestige Car Show, with Billingsgate and St
Katherine’s Dock being the venue. We shall be popping over for
a day to take a look, as I think the concept is very interesting,
Let’s face it, the same profile of client is interested in at least
two of the categories on show, if not all three. So to be able
to attract these potential buyers all under one umbrella has
merit. London should also be the ideal venue with its plethora
of Billionaire’s and HNWIit‘s from around the globe basing
themselves there.

This month also sees the welcome return of the Caribbean
contingent to the Med, and signals the real start to the season.
My sources tell me that the season is looking very promising
with an increase in charter bookings, and the refit companies
still very busy in the yards, and already booking up fast for
next winter!

This month also sees The Islander move office. We are now to
be found in Calle San Magin, just above LAB Bar, sharing with
Invisible Crew and MSOS. Visitors will be welcome as always
and coffee at Chantilly will still be our other office!!

Fair Winds!

Dear Islander,

By the time you read this, the first
major event of the season, The
Dovaston Crew Show, will have been
and gone. It will have been interesting
to see how the new venue of The
Boathouse on the Paseo Maritimo and
the two day format worked out.

Elsewhere, the Volvo Ocean Race’s
most difficult leg will be nearing its
completion, from Auckland to Itajai in
