Count down to Quaynote
Palma Superyacht
Conferences
Plenty of delegate bookings
and a high level of support
from the global superyacht
industry has been attracted
for the Quaynote Superyacht
Conference and Business
Networking Events taking
place at the Melia Palace
Atenea Hotel in Palma at the
end of April.
Running alongside the 3rd
annual Palma Superyacht
Show and the 32nd Boatshow
Palma, the Quaynote
Conferences are no stranger
to the island of Mallorca
having run their popular
‘Future of Superyachts’
forums over many years from
2007 onwards, usually
just before the Palma
Superyacht Cup.
However this is the first time
that a conference program
designed specifically for
management professionals,
and captains & crew from
the superyacht sector has
been conveniently placed
within walking distance of
the boat show. Many have
commented that a conference
specifically covering the
technical and commercial
aspects of superyacht refits is
well overdue in Palma, given
the port’s dominant position
as a provider of yard facilities
and tradesmen. The schedule
has also been carefully timed
to allow overseas visitors a
maximised return on their
travel costs, allowing them
to attend the conferences
and the boat show, whilst still
leaving time to enjoy some
socialising, networking
and entertainment.
The organisers have
announced a full and varied
agenda for this edition,
with contributions from
many well known speakers,
technical panel members and
supporting sponsors from the
global superyacht industry.
The ‘Future of Refit & Repair’
Conference will open on
Thursday 30th April with a
welcome speech from Antonio
Duedero the director general
of Balearic Port & Airports.
This will be followed by a
keynote address from Rob
Papworth, chairman of the
ICOMIA Superyacht Refit
Group, who will set the tone
for the day’s proceedings with
some background information
on the recent business
developments within the
refit market.
Sessions on Commercial
Refit Contracts, Project
Management, Coatings
Application and Interior
Design & Materials will
complete a busy day of
interactive and topical
discussion, and integrated
within the conference there
will be several specialist
companies exhibiting their
products and services during
the refreshment and
lunch breaks.
On day 2, the subject matters
turn to ‘The Future for
Captains & Crew’, presenting
another packed agenda
chaired by Norma Trease,
a director of Salmanca
Marine’s Port Vell Barcelona
Superyacht Marina.
Norma’s extensive background
in Superyachts from Chef and
licensed mate, to journalist,
consultant and active industry
committee member will
be the perfect grounding
for moderating the day’s
proceedings, on topics such
as Developing a Career Path,
Personal Finances for Crew,
Dealing with MLC Compliance
Issues, Duty of Care Onboard
and Chartering Destinations /
Regulations.
As at all Quaynote events
there will be no shortage of
socialising and networking
opportunities, with a cocktail
party after day 1 sponsored
by Jotun Paints Iberia, and
an organised trip to Port
Adriano Superyacht Marina
for complimentary cocktails at
the end of day 2 on May 1st.
On Saturday 2nd May
bookings are being taken for
a friendly round of golf, which
has ben pre arranged at the
excellent Son Gual Golf Club
close to Palma, and for those
that wish to learn the game,
a 3 hour golf clinic with a top
teaching professional has
been organised at the same
golf course.
