Asocciación Ondine –
Dos Manos Update
It seems two words are
circulating around different
communities of Mallorca at
the moment, Dos Manos!
I must admit we were not
expecting the huge interest
that has been shown in our
small initiative that promotes
the use of re-usable items
and to clean up yOUR world
anywhere, anytime.
We are getting swamped
with thank you emails, our
facebook page engagements
have gone from a few
hundred on a post to over
5000 in a couple of Dos
Manos posts. It really seems
people of Mallorca want to do
a better job of looking after
her! Fantastic.
So instead of me rabbiting on
about this, here is one email
from a very appreciative mum
and her kids who participated
in Dos Manos in Cala Agulla.
“Hi Brad,
Just to let you know that we
had a great time cleaning up
the beach this morning. The
rain held off and we managed
to fill up a lot of bags. The
kids were awesome and really
want to do it again. They will
hopefully be telling all their
classmates about Dos Manos
when they go back to school
on Monday. The adults were
pretty awesome too and they
will definitely be spreading
the Dos Manos love to all their
friends - I think quite a few
of those who did not turn up
today will hopefully be making
their way to Playa de Palma
next week.
We were all surprised and
intrigued as to the quantity
of lollipop sticks on the beach
and we began preaching to
the kids about always putting
their lollipop sticks in the bin
(not a bad lesson). Then, we
discovered from your team on
site that they were actually
cotton bud sticks having
been flushed down the toilets
evading all the filtration
systems and ending up on our
lovely beaches. Everyone’s
noses turned up at that point
and there was a general
sound of ‘eeugh’ from the
group! The kids got it though.
Lesson number 2 of many
lessons learnt today.
So we wanted to say thank
you for creating this campaign
and helping make our kids, the
future generation, aware of
why we should be keeping
our world clean.
Best regards,
Los veinte-cuatro manos
de Cala Agulla.
Charlie, Mark, Andie, Rob
Emma, Theo, Max, Evie, Ellie,
Sienna, Ewan and Ben”
Check out the photo of
these kids, little legends
with legendary parents!
Its these children that will
determine the future of our
natural environments and
with what we have seen
over the past few weeks
they will do a much better
job than what our generation
has done in understanding,
protecting and improving
our local sea! Great job
kids, we salute you
with Dos Manos!
