SPOTLIGHT

Asia-Pacific Boating March/April 2015 33

Unveiled spectacularly at last year’s Monaco Yacht Show, and recently
serenaded as the Barca dell’Anno 2014 or Yacht of the year in Genoa, the
Mangusta 165 E Moonraker has been stirring up quite the ripple in the
stream of superyachts. Presently, the fastest Open Maxi Yacht in her
category, the Moonraker is part of the fi erce Mangusta 165 series and makes
a statement of her own with dynamic designs and powerful eff ervescence. A
seamless symphony of repose, readiness and refuge, this beauty embodies
the best of bespoke sailing, with nine units already delivered in a span of less
than seven years.

Personalised privilege
Recognised by its strong ‘evo’ aesthetics, the new Mangusta 165 E strikes
an identity of its own, from the rest of the Mangusta 165 fl eet. A creative
collaboration between designer Stefano Righini and Overmarine Group’s
Design Department, the Moonraker culminates in an array of architectural
artistry, with special requests from the owner to give a masculine makeover
to its silhouette. Th e addition of a new side window on the main deck,
alongside a particular pane of glass in the salon area which fl oods the
interiors with natural light, are all in accordance with the trending dictums
of yacht building. Th e restyle fl ybridge perimeter creates a better fl ow with
the built-in deck furniture, while the stern has been shaped to accentuate a
sense of potent aggression. Lengthened by about a metre and a half, the new
structure triumphantly assimilates the large divan and the steel handrail into
the superstructure, concocting an eff ect of sharp minimalism.
True to the tradition of Mangusta, the Moonraker indulges its patrons in
tailor-made comfort, especially with the lustre of its completely customised
interiors. Immaculate attention to detail and epicurean aesthetics refl ect the
stellar spirit of this model, diffi cult to fi nd on any other vessel of this size.

Tech check
Th e M90 3650hp engines have given way to the much improved
MTU 16V4000 M93L 4700hp engines while the redesigned pump
boosts the yacht’s performance and lowers its fuel consumption.
Addition of the modish CO2 fi re-fi ghting system, commands an
effi cient performance without any harm to guests and crew.

Fit for a king
Dressed entirely in ash wood, the VIP cabin is further enhanced
with an elaborate vanity corner. A washbasin in smoked oak,
topped with a Th assos marble surface, syncs perfectly with the
shower unit in white and grey mosaics, crowning this cabin with
warm hospitality.
