still have some seriously great
success in the inside, accord-
ing to Macaluso.
“There are still going to be
some fish up in the marsh,” he
said. “There are going to be
some fish in the drains look-
ing for whatever early shrimp
are coming out and pogies.”
When fishing the drains,
Macaluso likes a falling tide
because it sucks everything
out the marsh.
Don’t be surprised if some-
thing with wings comes into
your line of sight, according
to Macaluso.
“A lot of times in April you
start seeing birds working out
in front of the drains,” he said.
Macaluso said fishing the
birds with a popping cork is a
very effective method.
Macaluso said sitting in one
spot too long is a huge mis-
take anglers can make and
can be detrimental to success
in April.
“A good way to get on the
trout is to put on something
under a popping cork and
keep moving around until you
find something,” he said.
One thing that tends to quell
the bite a good bit is the pas-
sage of a front, according to
Macaluso.
“If you go from 80-degrees in
an afternoon and you get up
the next morning and it’s in
the 30s and 40s, the trout are
going to slow down a bunch,”
he said. “In those situations
you are going to be better
off fishing in the afternoon
because it will give the sun a
chance to heat up the water a
little bit.”
But when conditions are
right, April is a great time to
be outside in Dulac’s outside. ■
