With the water level about
normal at a time when it usu-
ally is high or extremely high,
Henderson Lake was primed
for sport fishing going into
late March and April.
No one knows that bet-

The Atchafalaya River, which
influences the lake level, was
unseasonably low all winter
but starting to rise a little
by the time she gave a fish-
ing report the first week of
March. She was hopeful the
water would come up and get
into the woods so crawfisher-
men would have access to
deepwater crawfish.
Mequet believes sac-a-lait
fishing will be fair to good,
with the panfish spawning by
the time you read this.
Fish around cypress trees
along the flats in the front
or along the north flats, or
target the borrow pits along
the West Atchafalaya Basin
Protection Levee — Kern’s Pit
and George Dupuis Pit. Fish
the edges of the borrow pits,
the levee side, mostly.
Wherever you go after sac-a-
lait, fish with 1/48- (her favor-
ite) or 1/32-ounce hair jigs or
tube jigs in black/chartreuse,
