Cormier and his fishing partner caught four bass in the 4- to
5-pound class, and seven bass in the 3- to 4-pound range. Their
best five would have weighed close to 20 pounds.
Navarre, who founded the Christian-based Bayou Bass
Anglers, said the two anglers fished the perennial spawning
areas in the lake — namely some of the six or seven cuts where
bass go to spawn.
Water in those shallow areas warms faster, he explained,
which is why the sows move up into them.
The lake could produce some good action in late March and
early April, although perhaps not as fast and furious as outings
like Cormier experienced.
Navarre advised anglers to fish with black or watermelon red/
pearl Stanley Ribbits or other plastic frogs in and around any
vegetation, and with ½-ounce chartreuse and chartreuse/white
spinnerbaits with a single Colorado blade. ■
