Secretar y’s Say

I

I really look forward to spring
fishing, as with the evenings
drawing out I can spend the fading
light period chasing perch and pike
rather than watching the telly! The
older I get the more inclined I am to
getting “cabin fever”, probably down
to 40 years stuck in an office! Fishing
for perch is top of my agenda this
time of year, travelling very light with
my Sakura Shinjin Light 7ft 2-7g rod
paired with a Shimano Stradic C14
2500 loaded with 10lb power pro braid,
this outfit can handle any bigger pike
(or odd catfish) that turn up when I’m
out lure fishing. This outfit has served
me well for a season or more and is
one of three perch outfits I use
throughout the season. I’m looking
forward to increasing my tally of 2lb+
perch over the months ahead and
wish I could find a local venue that
regularly produces 3lb perch, without
having to spend a day in a boat on
Pitsford, Rutland or Grafham!
In December we held the now
annual committee meeting, which
with a full Agenda created some lively
interaction by all the committee
members. I won’t bore you with all
the mundane topics but the ones that
follow may be of interest to you.
Chapter Cup Final Event:
In all five Chapters with 10 Champions
have already qualified for the final
which is likely to be held in mid-May
on Pitsford. The LAS will cover the
cost of tickets and boat charges for the
finalists. The Chapters Champion Cup
will be presented for the first time!
LAS President:
Our existing President Chris
Leibbrandt was contacted and it was
agreed by all concerned that his term
of office will come to an end at AGM
2015 on Sunday 12 April 2015 and he
will then become a lifetime Vice
President. The new President will be
Roy Goddard.
Lurefair 2016:
The next bi-annual Lurefair will be
held in April 2016, although the venue
has yet to be decided upon. Lurefair
2014 was the best attended event ever,
so we may return to a similar area of
the country.
Free Junior membership scheme:
Championed by Treasurer Ron Dalton,
the LAS is to offer free membership to
juniors with a quarterly e-magazine,
instead of a posted printed paper copy,
to keep the cost down. Juniors are our
future and we want to support them
via the latest technology.
Family membership replaced:

As juniors now enjoy free
membership, we needed to change
membership options, so the partners/
couples membership was created,
with both having full membership
benefits but just 1 magazine per
membership £30.
Deputy Editor Appointed:
Our editor Keith Edmunds has a very
busy career and felt that, to continue
to improve, our magazine needed
some direct assistance, hence Steve
Middleditch aka Ditchy was
appointed. Steve lives near Keith and
has been co-opted onto the committee
as Deputy Editor. Welcome to the
Committee Ditchy!
LAS 25th Anniversary:
The LAS was created in October 1992
by our four Founding Fathers, so in
2017 our Society will be 25 years old.
The committee have several ideas to
mark the anniversary, including a
large scale Fish In and /or boat event,
but this is still in the planning stage.
Shortly after the committee meeting
we were all sorry to learn that one of

our number was having to stand
down. Wayne Fletcher had been the
Chapters Co-ordinator since Spring
2013 and had approached the role
with his boundless enthusiasm,
coming up with many great ideas,
including the Chapters Champion
Cup. We would all like to thank
Wayne very much for the time he
spent on the committee and hope that
his increased responsibilities at work
do not take up too much time, as we
still want him fishing with us!
And finally – AGM / Secretary’s Cup
2015 will take place on Sunday April 12
at the Stables Café on the banks of the
Gloucester Canal. If you would like to
attend, please arrive at 9am for a
9:30am start for the Annual General
Meeting. Tea, coffee & bacon
sandwiches on arrival, will be paid for
by the LAS. The AGM is likely to last
60 to 90 minutes, then the Secretary’s
Cup Fish In commences on the
Gloucester Canal famed for it’s zander,
but also containing pike and perch. At
4pm we will return to the café for
refreshments and prizes presentation.
The address of the café is – Sandfield
Bridge, Canal Bank, Saul, Gloucester.
GL2 7LA Phone – 01452 741965.
I will start a thread on the Forum,
so we can gauge numbers attending.
TIGHT LINES!
Kev Taylor
