PRODUCT TEST | AIRGUN
Looks will divide
opinion- but
performance is
undeniable!
Up, down, back and
forward......just how
you want it!
Only the receiver is bolted to the stock so
allowing the air cylinder to free-float, which is
essential
can be unscrewed, and the gauge fed
through the aperture that way.
Continuing the test, and a loaned MPR
action, with a perfectly straight gauge, went
straight on. One single stock screw holds all
these actions in place, and Sure-Shot supply
a replacement hex bolt which is much
shorter than standard, to allow for the new
FT stock to fully tighten. Once in position,
you may note the way the action is only held
along the length of the receiver and the main
cylinder is therefore allowed to fl ex and
expand as necessary. This is standard
procedure for most top target PCP’s, and
good attention to detail.
CONSTRUCTION
The main chassis of these stocks is
constructed from high strength Duralumin
AW7070, and it’s fi nished in a hard black
anodized coating, to a thickness of 50
microns; so it should prove hard wearing. As
for the three wooden sections - the cheek
piece, pistol grip, and palm rest, can be
specifi ed in either Black lacquer, Beech, or a
Laminate fi nish.
My test stock came with Black Lacquer
fi ttings, and the matt, grippy surface feels
good. Weight-wise, an interesting point to
note is that the standard wooden MPR stock
comes in at 2.3lbs, whilst this replacement
Ultra FT stock weighs exactly twice that, at
4.6lbs (the Bench Rest (BR) version is also
available at 3.7lbs). A signifi cant increase
then and changing the handling quite
dramatically! Of course, that’s exactly what
many shooters/ competitors want, and part
of the great appeal of these stocks.
ADJUSTABILITY
Making adjustments to suit the individual is
not something to be rushed; more an
exercise, to be executed over several practise
sessions at the club. Take each section in
turn, and relax and tweak, as necessary; then
tweak again until all falls into place.
To adjust the position of the forend, just
slacken both hex bolts from the underside,
and slide the assembly along the accessory
rail. Re-tighten the bolts when it all feels
right. With the whole run of the accessory rail
to play with, fi nal, individual positioning should
suit all comers. For an indication on
dimensions, the measurement from centre of
barrel to base of the raiser plate is
approximately 118mm - well within the
150mm maximum permitted in this area for
HFT.
As for the pistol grip, a change of position
is possible, by unscrewing the bottom bolt,
and resetting the grip on one of four pre-
drilled mounting holes - basic but effective.
Extending length of pull, cheek piece
position/ height, butt hook angle, and height,
are all easily achieved by slackening hex
bolts, making minor adjustments, and
re-tightening when happy.
Optional counterweights were supplied for
the test, which include a 4.75” bar and four
weights, designed to alter the balance from
the butt if deemed necessary. The bar just
screws into the butt hook assembly, in any of
the pre-drilled holes, and weights can be
added or removed to suit.
SIMPLICITY
What stands out with this custom stock
is the sheer simplicity of the design, and
I have to say, the quality of the machining
is impressive. It’s a great product, and if
this particular style of match kit appeals,
then I highly recommend it. Models are
available to fi t straight on to the Air Arms
S400, S410, S510, MPR models, Ultimate
Hunter, and HFT500. Stocks will very
shortly be available for the Air Arms S200
and TAU BRNO MK300 Sniper models.
