Last week, we learned the sad
news of the passing of tackle-shop
proprietor Simon Mullins, who was
found dead in his at on 14th

Simon was the boss of
Specimen Angling in Chelmsford,
Essex, formerly Bevan Carp Tackle,
and had worked in the trade for a
number of years. Simon leaves

A 25lb original was enough to win
the rst Four Seasons Carp Cup
event of the year on Yateley’s
Sandhurst Lake.
Just two sh were landed
during the 48-hour event, as the 18
pairs battled against north-easterly
winds and freezing-cold
temperatures. Connor Bruton and
Steve Bates took the victory thanks
to their 25lb mirror from peg ve,
which was enough to beat David
and Matt Barlow in peg six, who
caught the only other sh of the
match in the form of a 24lb mirror.
e next event of the series is in
August, when the anglers will revisit
Sandhurst for the summer match,
before returning again in September
for the autumn encounter.

Steve Price from Shanklin, Isle of Wight, put in a
36-hour session on the Blackwater syndicate to
take this 38lb mirror (left).
e 55-year-old marketer used CC Moore Equinox
boilies to tempt his only sh of the session, which
picked up a hookbait presented on a size 6 Korda
Wide Gape hook and a 15lb N-Trap soft hooklink.

Tim Riches from Stoke-on-Trent, Sta ordshire, had a
dream start to his carp angling year when his rst trip,
a 48-hour session on Catton Park, produced this 35lb
10oz mirror (left).
e 36-year-old market trader used Mainline
Hybrid boilies and also accounted for a 14lb common.
Tim shed up to a weedbed at 50 yards range over a
tightly spodded bed of chopped free o erings, and
o ered 12mm Milky To ee pop-ups two inches o the
bottom on chod rigs tied with barbless size 8 Kuro S
hooks, 25lb Rigidity links and 3¾oz Fox Horizon leads.
A 72-hour session on Elphicks Pullens
Lake, Kent, saw Adam Robinson from
Upminster, Essex, up his personal best
three times with mirrors of 28¾lb, 37lb
and 37¼lb. Adam, 26, told Carp-Talk:
“ ree new PBs all caught from the same
spot and on the same rod!” Mainline
Milky To ee pop-ups did the business for
Adam, who o ered them two inches o
the bottom on size 6 Kurv Shank hooks,
four-inch 25lb Su x Camo Skin
hooklinks and 3oz leads. ese were
shed on their own to marginal reeds at
50 yards range.
Also nding success at Elphicks was
Neil Battman from Orpington, Kent,
who banked mirrors of 27lb and 36¼lb
during an overnight session on West End
Lake. e 37-year-old printer told
Carp-Talk: “It was my rst trip out, and
what a result. After watching the water
for most of the day with no rods in the
water, I found where they were holding
up and exploited it.” Neil used CC Moore
gear and shed over two kilo of Live
System free o erings in open water at 35
yards range. Hookbaits were Dairy
Supreme pop-ups mounted on helicopter
rigs comprising barbless size 6 Krank
hooks, 16-inch 12lb IQ2 hooklinks and
5oz Korda pear leads on Heli Beads.
