JOB OPPORTUNIT Y

A 24-hour trip to Old Mill Lakes at Market Rasen
resulted in this 34lb mirror for Steven Grainger.
e 30-year-old gardener made his own boilies to
tempt his catch, using a nutty-based mix at 20
yards range to a deep hole. He presented
hookbaits on Korda Kurv hooks, 25lb links and
3oz leads, baiting his spot with two kilos of
freebies.
Steven told Carp-Talk: “I turned up at Old Mill
to nd a busy Birch Lake. I had a quick look about
and found a peg that just felt right. e rst thing
I did was get a rod out with just a lead on and
found a deep hole just o a little spit. I got set up
and decided to go for it so I put two kilos of bait
out, shing a pop-up over the top. I sat back
enjoying the warm weather when the bobbin just
smashed into my rod. e pick up was really
violent. It was screaming when I picked up the
rod. It was an epic battle and when I eventually
had it in the net I had to take a minute. e owner
came round to help with the weighing and photos,
and it was a great moment as it was a new PB.”

 is 26lb 13oz mirror was
tempted from a low-stock
Lincolnshire pit by Arran King
of Grimsby. e 35-year-old
process operator used 16mm
Sticky White Signature pop-ups
on size 6 Korda Krank hooks,
20lb N-Trap links and 3oz
square pear leads. Arran
commented: “With a full moon
above I couldn’t turn it down, so
I set o to work in the dark
knowing it was going to be
8.30pm by the time I arrived at
the lake. I had a good feeling the
sh were starting to wake up and felt con dent even though there are only 12-15 sh in the lake. I
eventually got my rods on the spots and put a few Spombs of test bait crumbed up with sweetcorn
over the top. After an epic fail at trying to get some kip in the night, one of my choddies ripped o and
following a very gentle battle I slipped the sh into
the net. e sh happens to be called Little Scaly
and was on my ‘most wanted’ list.”

Paul Hopper shed 48 hours on
Raker Lakes and was rewarded
with this 28½lb mirror. e
41-year-old used Mainline High
Impact pop-ups, o ering these on
size 8 Korda Wide Gape hooks,
20lb N-Trap Silt links and 2oz at
pear leads. He shed them at 50
yards range to a 2ft gully, which
he baited with a bed of Mainline
15mm Cell boilies. Paul revealed:
“At 1am, I was just nodding o
when I had a few bleeps. I sat up
looking to see if the bobbin had
lifted and it hadn’t. en just as I
was going back to the bivvy, my
alarm screamed o! It put up a
great ght for this time of year. It
was a new personal best and I was
very happy!”

Lakes PB

A large PVA bag of Ja a Nut Mix alongside a
12mm Ja a pop-up tempted this 26lb 7oz common
from Raker Lakes. e lucky angler to track it down
was Paul Davies of Whitby who shed the famous
day-ticket venue for 48 hours. e 27-year-old
sca older shed at 20ft range to a reed bed,
o ering his hookbait on an Atomic Grabba hook,
15lb Jellywire link and a 2oz Taska lead. Paul
revealed: “I was shing in swim ve. It was the
hardest ght I’ve had in such a small swim.”
