EDITORIAL
I recently mentioned on
my Twitter page that
during the winter I have
caught 19 carp on the
same hook. is same hook is still
attached to my rods as I write, so by
the time this magazine hits the
shelves, that number may well be
higher if I’m lucky.
Being a carp consultant by
profession, I have access to
unlimited amounts of hooks.
However, if a hook doesn’t need
changing, then why change it? Of
course, I will always check them
after every cast and capture. I
religiously study the point, dragging
it across my palm and checking its
sharpness. If it shows any signs of
damage, sometimes I may sharpen
it with a stone, but most of the time
I will change it.
I know some lads advocate
changing hooks after every capture,
which I partly understand, but such
is the high quality of end tackle
today, there really isn’t a need to.
e quality of hooks today is
fantastic and the best ones will
withstand lots of
wear and tear.
