 e 48-hour event, which will
be aired on Tight Lines soon and
featured Carp-Talk’s very own Bev
Cli ord, took place on Willow Lake
and saw two sh banked, both of
them personal bests. Samantha
Roberts in peg ve kicked o
proceedings with a 34¾lb mirror,
shortly before eresa Biggs landed
a 35lb leather o peg seven.
eresa’s sh is thought to be the
only leather in Willow.
Event organiser Miranda Brown
told Carp-Talk: “What a great bunch
of ladies who turned out for the
event; we had everything from
builders and railway engineers to
international project managers and

Walthamstow
Reservoirs’ famous Big Common put
in an appearance to Lithuanian carpenter Aidas
Samsonas, who tempted the much-sought-after resident during a day
session on the No. 3 Reservoir. Aidas, who lives in Romford, north-
east London, has been shing the Walthamstow complex for the past
three years, landing a number of twenties and thirties in that time, but
this was his rst UK forty, having tipped the scales at 42¼lb (above).
Aidas told Carp-Talk: “Some people have been shing for this sh
for 10 or 15 years, so I am very privileged to have caught it. I owe a lot
to my friend Alfredas Macenka, who has been shing Walthamstow for
a long time, and I always speak to him for some advice before every
session. After spending Monday and Tuesday on the No. 2 and
catching nothing but bream, he suggested I shed on the No. 3 and
tried to catch the Big Common, so when I returned on the ursday,
that’s where I headed.
“ ere was a cold north-easterly wind blowing on the day of the
session. I decided to sh in the middle of the lake, casting towards a
plateau at around 40 metres. e take came at around 4pm and the
sh took a good 15 minutes to land, but when it went in the net, I was
very happy. A few di erent anglers turned up in my swim and
con rmed to me that it was the Big Common. It was fantastic.”
e sh fell for a 16mm Clam pop-up shed on a 360 chod rig, the
rst time Aidas had used the presentation.

LATE NEWS...

An opportunist
session on Colchester Angling
Preservation Society’s Snake Pit in Rowhedge, Essex, resulted in the
capture of the lake’s most prized resident, the Snake Pit Common at
51lb (above) for Greg Owens.
He said: “I arrived at the lake to buy an unhooking mat from a local
angler and while I was there I saw sh roll at 95 yards range on a spot
that I knew well. I got a couple of rods out of the car and cast to the
spot with two DT Bait Developments washed-out pink Howler pop-ups
on. I didn’t have to wait long before the buzzer had sounded and I was
leaning into a lump. After a tough battle, I landed her at 51lb exactly.
What a result!”

school teachers. e weekend got o
to a fantastic start, with two personal
bests broken within the rst few
hours, so a big well done to Samantha
and eresa.
“Sky Sports turned up on
Saturday and conducted interviews
with some of the team, and then on
the evening we had a barbecue, which
was a massive success, and all the
ladies got on like a house on re, as if
we’d known each other a lifetime.
“ e next step for the team is to

take on a team of guys in a pairs
match, which will become an annual
event. More information about this
event will be advertised shortly. e
long-term plan for this team is to
challenge a few teams in the UK
before hopefully taking on other
ladies teams in Europe. e support
has been overwhelming, our
Facebook page received 1000 likes
in the rst three days, so a big
thanks to everyone who has backed
us so far.”
