Portable recharge with the sun

Powertraveller, a UK-based manufacturer of portable chargers, is
putting off-grid power into your hands.
The powermonkey explorer 2 houses a dual-core, 6000mAh
lithium-ion battery, capable of recharging an iPhone 5 up to three
times, a GoPro Hero3+ four times and a Garmin Edge 1000 four
times. It is also compatible with a plethora of other 5V devices
such as tablets (including iPad), iPods, digital cameras, sat
phones and more.
It is the tough design of the powermonkey explorer 2 that makes it
most suitable for sailing.
With an Ingress Protection (IP) rating of 67, the powermonkey
explorer 2 is waterproof for 30 minutes in up to one metre of water.
The waterproof capabilities are not compromised even when the unit
is charging a device. The micro USB charging connectors include
IP65-rated weatherproof caps to keep dust and splashes of water out
when not in use, whilst the durable 80mm “Y” cable has been tested
to -30°C.
Designed so that additional charging options can be added at a
later date, the powermonkey explorer 2 will eventually have its own
hand crank and wind turbine modules.
The powermonkey explorer 2 is made from a strong aluminium
casing, making the unit so tough that you can park a Land Rover on
it, drop it down a mountain or even drive over it! The ridged surface
allows you to keep a firm grip in cold weather – perfect as the unit
has been tested down to -30°C.
It is only 87 millimetres long and 45mm in diameter, weighing 286
grams. Its operating temperature is -30°C to 50°C.

Med multi second hand showcase
The multihull industry is now a real engine for growth in sailing, the
market for catamarans grows at three to five per cent per year.
Potential buyers come from diverse backgrounds, one third
are new entrants to the boat market, while the rest are changing
from owning a monohull or power boat. Multihulls meet the
expectations of these newcomers, they offer the space and
comfort required, without compromising performance.
The used-multihulls market therefore, is an economic reality
and a response to the development of sales of brand new
multihulls. With an annual production of multihulls approaching
1000 boats, the market opportunity is obvious opening the way
for a dedicated showcase of secondhand multihulls.
The association Nautipole Mediterranee in Canet en
Roussillon, France, has launched its first event exclusively
dedicated to used multihulls.
On the 1st to the 4th of October 2015 multihulls of all shapes
and sizes will be exhibited afloat: cruising catamarans and
trimarans, sail or power. On site, customers will also find many
useful services and equipment to facilitate and enhance their
purchase: electronics, rigging and sails, financing solutions,
insurance, marine survey. Plus transportation options, chartering
and tips for long cruises etc.
Nautipole is known as a refit centre for cruising multihulls in
the western Mediterranean area and the exhibition area, Canet
en Roussillon, already contains all the professionals with the
know-how and the expertise to suit anyone’s program.
