Tom’s modelworks
USS Nevada BB-
Model No.: 700-
Scale: 1/
Length: 35 cm
A Multi-media kit containing: 220+ resin, 8 clear plastic, plastic
rod, 26 turned brass gun barrels, decals and photo-etched parts

USS Nevada was
completed in 1916,
modernised in the late
1920s, she was armed with
10 x 14" main guns and
16 x 5" secondary guns
together with over 70 anti-
aircraft weapons. She was
badly damaged during the
Japanese attack on Pearl
Harbor in December 1941.
Repaired and modernised in 1942 she saw action during the D-Day
landings and the invasions of Iwo Jima and Okinawa. She survived the
war and in 1946, surplus to requirements, she was painted orange for
use as the ‘bull’s eye’ for the Bikini Atoll nuclear bomb tests.
This is an outstanding waterline model, the detail of the resin
castings are very well reproduced. The etched parts are finely
detailed and enhance the model’s detail even further. Brass gun
barrels and plastic rods for the masts are also included. Two
OS2U Kingfisher aircraft come with the kit, these are moulded in
clear plastic and decals for these come with the kit. The ten-page
assembly guide is quite comprehensive and contains many photos
of the Nevada taken during the war. The kit can be built for any time
after her 1942 repair, and upgrades during the following years; extra
parts are included for this purpose.
I will be giving details of more of these great kits in future articles.

revell
There is a welcome return of two kits this month. Revell has just
released, to their ship range of models, two models that were
discontinued several years ago, which will be well received by many
modellers.

North Sea Trawler
Model No.: 05204
Scale: 1/
Length: 37.3 cm
Parts: 61

These types of trawlers can be found all across the North Sea
and Northern Atlantic, operated by many European fishing fleets.
They carry a crew of 19 and work in all conditions. The trawlers
are equipped with the latest state of the art electronic systems for
navigation and sonar, which automatically warns when dense shoals
of fish are located. Many trawlers have been converted and are
used as oilrig resupply vessels.
The model features detailed hull, deck and superstructure, radar
masts, fishing equipment and life raft containers to name a few.
