USS Texas was retained as a memorial ship and may still be
visited. Finally, we saw the Russian Marat, one of four Gangut class
dreadnoughts again launched in 1911. She was lost to air attack
in 1941 although one of her sisterships, Parizhskaya Kommuna
(ex Sevastapol) survived until 1957. Rather surprisingly Italy either
were not invited or chose not to send a ship.

1/1200-1250 MODELS
The warships of this period are well represented by the current
1/1250 Neptun and Navis series with other useful models to be
found in the discontinued Argonaut range. Good old Hansa &
Delphin and even Wiking can help too, although they will need to be
sought out second-hand these days. Most unusual perhaps is the
Japanese made Konishi range which includes many IJN warships
including the Ashigara. The only model of the royal yacht seems to
be that made by Carat. MMI

Moreno, one of a pair of dreadnought battleships built in the USA
for Argentina in 1911. She was modernised in 1924-26 and not
scrapped until 1956. Travelling the furthest was the Japanese
Ashigara, completed in 1929 and the most recent in a class of four
Nachi class heavy cruisers notable for their non-compliance with
the 10,000 ton limit set by the Washington Naval Treaty.
From just across the Channel came the Dunkerque, a handsome
fast battleship completed in April (a second of class Strasbourg
followed in December 1938). The new German Navy sent the
Admiral Graf Spee (completed 1936) which was the last of three
so-called pocket battleships again built to a 10,000 ton limit,
this time imposed by the Versailles Treaty. The sole American
representative was the elderly battleship USS New York, a
dreadnought launched in 1911.
She was scuttled near Pearl Harbor in 1948 having survived two
atom bomb tests at Bikini Atoll in 1946 although her sistership
