Completing the model
Starting from the stern and working forward all the parts and
fittings were glued in situ using thick superglue. This is the most
rewarding part of the build because with the parts being attached
the model starts to look realistic. The final parts to be fitted
were the railings and having firstly marked the position of all the
stanchions onto the hull they were drilled out then all the railings
were added using thick superglue. After all the transfers had been
attached I gave the whole model a coat of satin varnish.

painting
Having made ready all the fittings they were attached to pieces of
cardboard using double-sided tape. Directly on the underside of the
cardboard the corresponding tray numbers were written so that on
the final assembly each part could be identified.
The paint colour used below the waterline was red oxide. Above
the waterline was done firstly with grey primer as were the decks.
Having then masked off the deck area and also below the waterline
a light grey was applied. All the decks were hand painted using
Humbrol matt 70 and matt 30. All the superstructure parts were
sprayed light grey with the decks hand painted matt green. Now
it was time to attach all the finished parts to the model. One job I
must mention is the railings and these come in the kit as sheets of
brass etches. A coat of grey primer was applied to these parts then
the tedious job of hand painting all stanchions black then all railings
white. I just painted two lengths a day and this made this job less
tedious.
