I removed all the deck access areas ready to install all the running
gear. One 6 V battery was going to power both motors and two
speed controllers were to be used with a BEC system. Now careful
planning of the installation had to be done because there is not a
lot of room available. With this in mind I decided to firstly install
both speed controllers then after testing remove one and connect
the remaining one to both motors and then re-test. This idea would
mean two sailing sessions would have to be done. Once the
installation job had been completed the model was placed in the
bath for ballasting and I found that removing one speed controller
did not affect the ballast at all.
With the build done I had to now wait until the weather improved
before test sailing. Now I did say that the build was done but it is
not complete for on the manufacturer’s website I noticed that brass
etched, finer detailed parts can be obtained for this model and I
went ahead and purchased them so these have to be painted and
attached.

On the Water
The day for sailing had arrived and firstly I tried using just one
speed controller in the model and to my joy it handled quite well.
A decent turning circle could be achieved so if a nice sedate sail
is required then this is the way to go. After connecting both speed
controllers it was replaced back onto the water for re-testing. Now
with independent controls on both props this proved to be a very
good regatta model, very manoeuvrable and really eye-catching on
the water. Both methods used proved to be in their own way very
successful and I was very pleased with the outcome.
Although this is not a large model it contains plenty of detail. If all
the parts on the plastic sheets are checked before being removed
then in my opinion a nice model can be achieved. MMI
