he design is based on the prototype which was designated
as one of the aluminium 24 ft Voe Boats, built by Malakoff
& Moore for general marine duties such as servicing salmon
cages, mussel farms etc. This company had its origins, possibly
in the late 19th century, as general marine engineers and boat
repairers etc. at Lerwick in Shetland, and currently operates as
Malakoff Ltd. after a buy out from the previous owners noted
above.
I will leave the model maker to use his own preferred methods of
construction, but given the fairly sharp curve of upper and lower
hull plating at the bow I would suggest the central keel backbone

be continued right forward and the bow section carved in two
halves and attached to each side of this backbone, with a suitable
depth rebate along the after edges to suit the thickness of the hull
planking which will form a secure fastening for the forward ends of
the hull planking.
I have shown in hatched a suggested outline of the central
backbone, which will obviously have to be cut down amidships to
accommodate the motor, and have the frames slotted over and
added thickness for the propeller shaft tube.
Note the considerable twist of the bottom plating at the stern
between the transom and section 3. The frame at section 8 can
be made solid and carried right up to the underside of the short
forecastle deck which will then form a forward bulkhead in the
wheelhouse. The after end of the wheelhouse is shown completely
open but can be closed off and a door fitted if preferred.
The locker at the stern can have a removable top to give access
to the steering mechanism, I have indicated a hatch amidships
which can be sized to suit access to the propulsion motor fitted.
I have not shown any camber on the forecastle deck or
wheelhouse top, this can be formed if preferred, also any suitable
arrangement of masts added to suit radio aerials etc. MMI
