REVIEWED QUINTREX 690 TRIDENT^113

comfortably. The big bunks also allow for
plenty of storage and nice deep side pockets
for bits and pieces. The good sized hatch
allows access to the anchor as well as the bow.
The helm starts with two big Ocean Pro
seats which are perfect for a boat of this size.
The big armrests, as well as the grab rails
behind the seats for additional passengers
who are standing, add to the appeal of the
Ocean Pro seats.
The sexy sports steering wheel protrudes
from a very impressive dash that features the
Lowrance HDS 12 which is hooked into the
E-TEC ICON system.
Similar to the Mercury Smart Craft system
that’s been around for well over a decade now,
the ICON is a computerised feedback system
linking information from the E-TEC straight to
your dash, or in this case, the big screen of the
Lowrance HDS12. Information such as RPM,
trim, fuel, ground speed, battery and fuel usage
is all at the skipper’s finger tips. The ICON
incorporates a single cable that relays
information back to the helm as well as trim and

throttle control. This makes for a very smooth
and easy to use control box which provides
instant response with no stretching cables to
worry about. Evinrude’s ICON system has lifted
the class and functionality of the big engines and
is certain to give Merc’s Smart Craft a run for its
money. Engine fitters are going to love the fact
that there are just a couple of cables to run to the
helm and the wiring is all but done.
Back to the boat’s features and the
laminated hardened glass windscreen features
a single wiper on the skipper’s side with a
washer system to remove annoying salt spray
from the screen. The hard top not only makes
it an all weather set-up but allows for plenty of
lighting overhead and a forward console for
radios, speakers and a stereo. The frame of the
hard top allows for a six rod rocket launcher
style holder that drops down on a hinge to
allow for easy stowing and removal.
The transom houses a dual battery setup with
a transom door, a feature packed bait board and
live bait tank with viewing screen and a water
pickup to pump in fresh water while under way.

As with the rest of the 690 Trident, the deck
and transom are very well finished and very
functional. The optional deck wash was also
an excellent addition to the test boat.
The chequer plate f loor houses a 135lt kill
tank with a bung for drainage which doesn’t
sound like much, but anyone who’s owned a hull
with a bung-less kill tank will love this simple
feature. The entire layout of the Trident was very
functional for both family boating and fishing.

Performance
The factory fitted 250 E-TEC was faultless.
There is nothing better than a big engine with
heaps of power on a hull and the 250 E-TEC
was that and more. It launched the seven
metre hull out of the hole and put it on the
plane effortlessly. The recommended power
for the 690 Trident is 150hp and there is no
doubt that the Trident could have lost a few
ponies and still performed very well.
The set-up was faultless with the big hull
having no trouble powering out of tight turns
