WITH CHRIS
CLE AVER

school of fish all the time. It’s a
very common mistake. Quite
often the noise from the boat and
motor will spook the fish long
before they’ve had the chance to
see your lures. The best
technique here is to watch the
fish and anticipate their
direction. Then position the boat
slightly upwind and cast your
lures into the schooled fish.
Hopefully you’ll hook up. Try
different sized lures and vary
your retrieve styles if they prove
hard to catch.

Clare Powell caught
this nice 27cm
whiting on Sydney’s
Northern Beaches.

Jack Carmichael caught
this 7.5 kilo snapper while
fishing in Port Phillip Bay.
He caught it on a pilchard
and two hooks with 40
pound leader.
