After a year-long build process, Xclusive Yachts,
the largest charter company in the Middle East,
launched its new 32-metre restaurant boat,
Xclusive 15, for the F1 in Abu Dhabi. Licensed for
up to 200 passengers, it was constructed by
Emirates Waves in Al Bateen, Abu Dhabi. “Our
regular clients kept asking us for more and more
capacity,” explained Amit Patel, Xclusive Yachts
Managing Director. “And you can understand
why – the UAE is such a hub for corporate
entertaining, and where better to do it than on
the waterways, canals and safe water cruising
areas. But we didn’t just to get a converted
ship, we wanted to have a boat built specifically
to our need, with wide open spaces that can
be dressed by event companies or the client to
make a truly “Xclusive” experience.”

Forthright fendering
While most boat owners would rather be keelhauled than
set off past the harbour entrance with their fenders still
down, it seems more of a fashion in the UAE for keeping
fenders bouncing around while underway. Maybe it is in
case the Coastguard decide to come alongside? Or maybe
its because tying and untying fenders is a cumbersome
affair? Well, Fendergrip, a new product stocked at Exalto
Emirates, may be the key. A pushbutton mechanism
with the fender cord run through means that fender
adjustment is a simple push button affair – no knots
required. Holding fenders and other rope-tied items in
place, the ease of Fendergrip can also eradicate bulky
fender cradles if arranged correctly. Now in stock at

Speculation has now ended and the 35th
America’s Cup location in 2017 has been
announced as Bermuda. Leading up to
the event, pencilled for the end of June to
avoid TV conflict with other US sports, the
America’s Cup World Series in 2015 and
2016 will race the AC45s, with 2015 dates
set for Cagliari, Italy in June, Portsmouth,
UK in July, Gothenburg, Sweden in August
and Hamilton, Bermuda in October.
Following the two-year build up, the round
robin America’s Cup Qualifiers will be raced
in AC62s, including the Defender. Could be
an Auckland venue, but not yet announced.
Then in May/June, the action moves to
Bermuda for the America’s Cup Playoffs of
match racing for the four top challengers,
semi-final and then final. First to five
points. With the Challenger then selected,
The America’s Cup Match will be likely
held June / July 2017, and first to seven
points, one point per race. If the winner of
the AC Qualifiers is in the Match, they will
start ahead with one point. As Team USA
are experienced at coming from behind,
what’s one point? While the 2016 dates
have yet to be decided, with only Chicago
throwing their hat in, surely the UAE should
capitalize on its winter weather and be an
AC45 venue?
