When I saw this, I thought that it was “oh so Yas”. As in, perfect for
the Yas Yachtie or Dubai Marina Yacht Club Cruiser - A lightweight,
foldable electric-assisted bike. The second model with upgraded
battery and increased automation, the Gocycle G2R is the brainchild
of Richard Thorpe, a design engineer with a 25-year career working
in the motorsports and light electric vehicle industry. Leaving behind
a design job with McLaren Cars, he dedicated all his creative juice
from designing lightweight racing car components and enthusiasm
for innovative engineering excellence into the e-bike concept from
Karbon Kinetics. Assembling the bike from its folded-up state takes a
little over five minutes, with interchangeable side-mounted front and
rear wheels makes disassembly or changing the 20-inch tyre an easy
variation. Once up, on demand manually at the touch of a button, or
engaged automatically when cycling the motor drive the micro-sized
250W electric motor provides a fast and emission-free drive with
smooth assistance to the rider, depending on their pedalling input.
Powered by a lithium-ion battery built into the injection-moulded
magnesium frame, the Gocycle G2R offers provides a range of up to 40
miles. Speed is governed by a high-tech, automatic electronic shifting
at the touch of a button, but allows up to 20mph if you take your feet
off the pedals and there’s no speed humps. And all this sat in upright
comfort with an inch of travel in the rear shock. A must-have dock
accessory, expect to see the well-dressed marina crews all travelling
by bike next year. Ahh, so thats where your marina fees are going...
