FRENCH MULTIHULL FANATIC AND LAGOON
DEALER, XAVIER BOUIN, IMAGINED HIS
PERFECT CATAMARAN

T

he carbon fibre-designed Tan 66 is
the brainchild of UAE businessman-
turned yacht broker, Xavier
Bouin and his company Tan Orient. As
an experienced sailor and catamaran
owner himself, it was his love of sailing
that brought him into the yachting world
commercially after the sale of his company,
and now as the regional dealer for Lagoon
catamarans he is further entwining himself
with the multihull community.
In my experience, multihulls entice
a certain type of person, particularly
those who have an enterprising and
entrepreneurial spirit. While not

necessarily a development class, it is
rare to find a multihull that has not had
some sort of design alteration, addition or
modification made by the owner, which
is often in vast contrast to the monohull
owner who keeps their yacht in pristine,
as bought, condition.
Not content with small changes, Xavier
had a vision of a new multihull shape,
and taking his dreams a step further, he
used his Breton connections to engage
world-renowned multihull designers
Marc Van-Peteghem and Vincent Lauriot-
Prevost (VPLP) to turn his sketches into
design-build reality, and the result was

the Tan 66. At 20 metres LOA with a
9.4-metre beam, this inverted-bow, high-
speed cruiser boasts twin helm stations,
a 26-metre centrally-placed rotating
mast, furling genoa, self-tacking solent,
furling boom and convertible roof making
speed sailing an effortless pursuit. With
four entrances to the interior and a host
of layouts to choose from to style the 120
square meter area, all the accommodation
benefits from the high topsides in a range of
styles from three to five cabins.
