First look

PERFORMANCE:
In my books, if you want a speedboat, drive something that
won’t crack your crystal, so I was not expecting hat-losing
acceleration from the twin MANs, but coupled with the
sharp entry and 14-degree deadrise on the deep-V, I was
expecting a smooth and steadier ride, with less affection
to the short Arabian Gulf than a lighter and shallower bow
yacht would offer. In neither was I disappointed. Hitting just
over 28 knots as a top speed before settling for the 22-knot
cruising speed, the balanced hull punched through the small
chop effortlessly, the fine entry bow catching and digging
her shoulder in when turned into a sharp figure-of-eight
without dousing the side decks. As is de rigeur these days,
parking (I am loath to call finger pilotage “berthing”) is

done by joystick command.
Luckily I remember my
‘Arcadians’ skills from my
youth (even if it was on an
Amstrad) and manage to
park without over-working
the bow and stern thrusters.
Being a bit of a stickler
for tradition, I’ve never
been too hot on stabilisers,
primarily due to my
personal experience of
them never performing
adequately when relied
on. While the Seakeeper
was able to engage with
a side-on motion, to be
honest it wouldn’t have
convinced a landlubber that
the horizon was steady, so
I would err on the side of
saving the weight and
being more pragmatic
with passage and
anchoring plans.
VERDICT:
Practical application and timeless styling as opposed
to flamboyant Italian whim has produced a useable and
suave yacht to take a chunk out of the established ‘yacht’
market leaders. Focusing on ergonomics and space usage
over eye-catching colouring means the Prestige 750 will
hold its value as well as its demeanor in all sorts of weather.
Accommodating eight, offering plenty of sunshade and
handling short chop easily, it is a perfect design for the
Middle East market’s appetite for larger yachts.
