I spoke to say it sounds like the oil has
been overfilled and is getting aerated.
Try removing a little oil to see if that
solves the problem.

Pitted Glass
[ Q ] Do you have some tips for restoring
safety (tempered) glass windshields?
Salt has penetrated the glass wind shield
in my boat in such a way that the surface
is pitted and hard to see through. I have
tried everything, from Coke to vinegar
and rubbing compound to certain acids,
but I’ve found no way to get the scars off
the glass.

No Compass?

The helm aboard this cruiser

layout and the vast amount of

real estate available for electron-

ics. Unfortunately, it was also

notable for lack of a compass.

The good news is that a

compass is a relatively easy and

inexpensive accessory to add.

Why a compass when any

number of tablets, smartphones

and multifunction displays can

point the way? A compass doesn’t require electricity to work. A compass is

waterproof. A compass is easy to read in the sun. I can’t remember the last

time I dropped my compass, misplaced it or forgot to charge it. I did have one

develop a bubble of air, so, as noble as compasses are, they are not perfect. I

find a compass more comfortable to steer by; with any kind of wave action in

open water, nobody can steer with the precision of a digital boat icon. I believe

a compass belongs at the helm of every boat. — K.F.
