MULTI 70 EDMOND DE ROTHSCHILD

UNDERGOES TRANSFORMATION

THE 70 ft trimaran Multi 70 Edmond de Rothschild, belonging to the
MOD70 class, measures 21.3 m in length and is 17 m wide.
In 2014, due to a lack of circuit for the class, the multihull
equipped by Baron Benjamin de Rothschild was adapted to single-
handed sailing with a view to her participation in the Route du Rhum.
To participate in the famous transatlantic race between St Malo
and Pointe-à-Pitre, the trimaran underwent a series of transformations
during her winter refi t. Th is began with work on the ergonomics to
adapt the deck layout to sailing singlehanded.
Greater protection was added to the helming stations and the pit.
Th e existing hood has been replaced and an outside watch station has
been created to minimise the time spent down below.
“Sea trials have given us a chance to check our theoretical data
relating to the diff erent behaviour of the boat according to either an
L-foil or a C-foil,” says Gitana Team Skipper Sébastien Josse. “For the
time being, we are keen on continuing our investigations along the
L-foil route.”
Th e build of this new craft commenced in October 2015 with a
scheduled delivery in the spring of 2017.
