Cruising Club of America’s
annual Awards Dinner in celebration
of its 2015 award recipients is set for
Friday, March 4th at the New York Yacht
Club in Manhattan, New York. Each year
the organization bestows fi ve awards
to distinguished boaters in recognition
of their achievements. Australian native
Jon Sanders received the Blue Water
Medal “Without Date” for a lifetime of
sailing including nine circumnavigations;

British sailors Tom and Vicky Jackson
were allotted the Blue Water Medal for
their more than 34 years of racing and
cruising; Canadians Kaspar and Trisha
Schibli earned the Far Horizons Award
for their series of cruises aboard their
yacht Starfi re; Canadians George Juri

and Grit Chui received the Stephens
Trophy for Outstanding Seamanship for
their lifesaving rescue of a man fl oating
offshore in the waters of Southeast Asia;
while the Richard S. Nye Trophy was
conferred to John E. Sanford of Tiburon,
California, for meritorious service to the
Cruising Club, of which he has been a

Construction of boatyard
enhancement at Lauderdale Marine
Center (LMC) in Fort Lauderdale,
Florida, has begun. Improvements to
the southwest portion of the upland
property started last month to expand
the boatyard’s capacity to accommodate
six additional yachts up to 150 feet,
including multi-phase, multi-voltage
power capabilities up to 480 volts and
additional vehicle parking. Renovations
at the adjacent River Bend Marine Center
are also set to begin and will include
new drainage, paving of the upland
boat storage area and new landscaping.
Located on the New River, LMC is a
50-acre facility consisting of a boatyard,
marina and marine service center that
can accommodate boats up to 200 feet.
