The SnapCam is a tiny
(40mm square) stills and
video camera that simply
clips to your clothing and

you to capture the moment in
an 8Mp still image; two taps for

The new AISlink CB1, from US
marine safety specialist ACR,
is a compact yet feature-
packed Class-B AIS transceiver
that is not only rugged and
waterproof (IPx7), but also
has a built-in GPS receiver and
both NMEA-0183 and 2000
ports for intercommunication
with most other devices.
The transceiver is very small
and slim, so can easily be
located out of sight. Its has
low power consumption, even
though it has an internal GPS
receiver and antenna, as well

as a connection for an external
GPS antenna. In fact, the only
feature is doesn’t have is a VHF
radio antenna splitter, so the
user will need to one or install
a separate AIS antenna instead.
The CB1 can also be put into
silent mode, providing both
privacy and security, while
still being able to monitor the
movements of other vessels
with active AIS.

One for the self-suffi ciency
enthusiasts: here’s a cooking
pot that charges your phone.
The PowerPot is large metal
cooking pot with a thermo-
electric generator built into
the bottom of the pot that can
produce electricity from hot
liquids such as stews, soups or
plain hot water. Working on the
same principle as the thermo-
electric coolbox (Peltier effect),

Cooking up a charge
only in reverse, you simply add
water and place the PowerPot
on any heat source, when it
will start generating electricity
within seconds. You can then
charge up a wide variety of
USB devices by plugging the
supplied heatproof cable into
a socket at the back of the pot,
but only while the pan is in use.
The greater the temperature
difference between the water
and the bottom of the
pot, the more
electricity it
will produce. The
PowerPot has a
built-in regulator
to ensure its output
remains at 5.0V
and at a maximum
of 1A current (2A
with PP10).

Price PP5 £99; PP10 £149 Contact Power Practical/Amazon

Zhik’s new slim fi tting Hydrophobic Fleece top
is a practical and warm base layer for coastal
and offshore sailors. Made from spandex micro-
fl eece, with built-in water repellency, its smart
enough to wear ashore and stylish enough to
be worn on its own in milder conditions.
The Hydrophobic Fleece not only repels
water, but is quick drying and also
provides a wicking action to
transport moisture away from
the skin. As the weather
deteriorates it can then
be combined with other
layers, such as Zhik’s
Titanium top or Z-Fleece,
to form part of a multi-
layer protection system.
Available in black only,
in sizes XS-XXL for men,
or XS-XL for women,
the Hydrophobic
Fleece quarter zip top
can be found in most
large chandlers.
