ärtsilä has entered into a five-year
maintenance agreement, said to be the first
of its kind in Africa, with customer Bonny Gas
Transport (BGT), a subsidiary of Nigeria LNG Ltd.
The agreement covers servicing and monitoring of
the engines on board six new-build gas tankers to
be operated by BGT. Each vessel is equipped with
five Wärtsilä 50DF engines, running primarily on
natural gas.
The company will employ condition-based
monitoring in its dynamic maintenance planning
(DMP) concept to determine actual engine
maintenance needs. Engine operation will be
monitored remotely by Wärtsilä engineers who will
provide 24-hour technical and operational support.
According to Wärtsilä’s Simon Auseth, general
manager of marine agreements, “In addition to
increasing engine uptime, BGT wanted to improve
maintenance planning and operative cost control.
With the continuous remote monitoring of the
equipment and the DMP concept, we can ensure
optimal availability while minimizing the risk of
disruption to operations.”
This agreement is the first to apply the company’s
data acquisition system, part of the Wärtsilä Genius
service, which aims to apply digital technology to
optimizing operational efficiency.
