Hypersonic Missiles

Sam Fender

Towards the end of a phenomenal year that
has seen him sell thousands of tickets an
hour and win the Critics’ Choice accolade
at the BRIT Awards, the English singer-
songwriter has released his debut studio
album, Hypersonic Missiles. Early reviews
suggest that it’s an astonishingly strong
collection sure to resonate with fans of
alternative rock.

FIVE FACTS:

  1. Fender was born on April 25, 1994 in
North Shields, near the northeast England
    city of Newcastle.

  2. Seven of the album’s 13 tracks were
released as singles prior to the album’s
release, in a run stretching back to March 30,
2017, when “Play God” was brought out.

  3. On the British TV magazine show The
One Show, Fender spoke of recently having
dinner with Elton John at his Windsor house,
    calling him “a lovely guy”.

  4. “My dad used to do residencies in all
the social clubs in Newcastle,” Fender also
revealed on the show, reflecting on the highly
    musical background of his upbringing.

  5. Fender told Apple Music’s Zane Lowe that
the album was influenced by “a mad time in
my life”, some “crazy things” which “changed
    my perspective on everything.”
