Th is diagram maps the course of a boat tacking on headers and lift s as it sails upwind
to its destination inside a tacking cone. At position 1, the boat sails the longest tack
(port here) at an angle that is closest to the target. At position 2, the wind shift s toward
the bow, so we tack right away to stay close to the trackline and keep moving toward
our destination. At position 3, the wind shift s toward the bow again, so we tack again.
Continue this method until you arrive.
