Required Education- Bachelor’s degree in Education, or a
related fi eld. (Three (3) years service as
a deck offi cer in charge of a navigation
watch may be substituted for the Bach-
elor’s degree) or equivalent military expe-
rience (Deck Watch Offi cer). - A 40-hour approved “Train the Trainer”
course which meets STCW requirements
OR complete an approved course within
60 days of hire (as a condition of contin-
ued employment). - STCW Basic Safety Training.
Required Experience- Seven years of maritime industry ex-
perience of which one-year is shipboard
experience as the offi cer in charge of navi-
gation watch or equivalent military expe-
rience (Deck Watch Offi cer).
Required Certifi cation- “Unlimited” Radar Observer endorsement.
- U.S. Coast Guard 100 ton Near Coastal
Master’s Credential - Able-Bodied Seaman Credential (or, as a
condition of continued employment, pur-
sue and earn the credential within 1 year)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:- Previous teaching experience at the post-
secondary level. - U.S. Coast Guard Master’s License, 500 Gross
Tons or more with Oceans endorsement.
